The 40 Year Old Bat Mitzvah

Power Trip

Sometime during our family weekend at Camp Ramah, Jane decided she wants to be a rabbi when she grows up.

Lest you think my four year old is a spiritual prodigy, I will tell you that her decision has everything to do with wanting to be in charge.

She noticed that when the rabbi jumps up on a chair and says, “Listen up, everyone!”, people stop talking and pay attention.

During some downtime in the library, Jane played rabbi.

"Turn to page 37!"

“In five minutes, the swimming pool will be open”:

Even rabbis can’t resist the temptation to do a fun jump now and then:

I asked the priest of my church once if he always knew that he wanted to be a priest, and his response was that as a kid, he used to pretend to be a priest (his father is also a priest), with the cape and bible, but it wasn’t until he was really in high school that he realized it was what he actually wanted to do. So who knows? Maybe this is the start of something for Jane.

Incidentally, the Armenian Church in the US is trying to do a big push to encourage young men to become priests. I wrote about this on my blog a while ago, but I am sure it would help their cause to have priests seem cool rather than scary.
