I want to show Nick Vujicic’s inspiring DVD, “No Arms, No Legs, No Worries,” to my third grader’s Girl Scout Brownie troop.

I’ll forgive this recycled Slate article (originally published in 2009) for calling Naked Archaeologist Simcha Jacobovici’s documentary about Passover “specious,” because it’s such a great topic: could there be a real, scientifically proveable explanation for the events of the Exodus?

The Wall Street Journal’s datebook section promises us a piece on Judith Shulevitz’s Sabbath World: Glimpses of a Different Order of Time on March 23. Rabbi Castiglione blew our minds last week with a lecture that talked about the non-linear nature of Jewish time, and he alluded to “shabbat time.” I am eager to read Shulevitz’s research and conclusions in this new book.

Guess what? Slate is discussing Sabbath World in their online Book Club. Check out all the entries. Author Shulevitz weighs in, which fixes one of the frustrating things about most book reviews: the author doesn’t get to clarify what she meant.

This article ran in 1996 but it’s still pertinent today. It’s interesting to read it with the perspective of 14 years in the future and see how trends mentioned as “emerging” continued and persist in 2010.
